An Art Center in Egypt Restricts Freedom of Expression!

Translation of “Hanetkalem” statement: A clear violation against freedom of creativity: El Sawy Cultural Wheel prevents a show from participating in a theater festival.

Urgent statement

The theater group, “We Lessa” (And Still) for theatrical shows, was subjected to clear violation against freedom of thought and expression, during the event of the seventh festival of El Sawy Cultural Wheel for monodrama. The jury objected on a sentence in the show, so the jury stopped it, didn’t allow the show go on and excluded the show from the festival. The organizations and the groups signing on this statement consider this to be dangerous with regards to inspecting the intentions of artists and putting rules for creativity, especially in an independent cultural organization as El Sawy Cultural Wheel which was a haven for creative artists, males and females, especially the youth, which provided a free open space for creativity and innovation.

The details of what happened are: during the melodrama show, “Autobus”, during the event of the festival of El Sawy Cultural Wheel for monodrama, after it was agreed between the actor (Mina Ezzat) and the director of the show (John Milad) to do an improvisation at the beginning of the show, in which the actor would do a role of an actor who is unsatisfied with the show and acting, then he would make nervous acts including displacing some of the decorative pieces, vilify the show and its elements, showing that this actor became bored of acting which he considers as not changing the society, so he is forced to act against his will, and of these emotions he expressed it saying in the Egyptian spoken language, literally: “I’ll spoil the mother’s religion of the show” (which is a common Egyptian expression expressing contempt). So, the jury just stopped the show, apathetic to any exerted efforts after less than the first 3 minutes after making rehearsals continuing for months and preparing for that day since last March, almost a year, after claiming that the actor “slandered religion”.

After many attempts from the director of the show with the jury, they agreed to make the show again, but the administration of El Sawy Cultural Wheel totally refused. Also, some members of the jury tried to make the show again after the director of the show gives a written apology, at the end of the show, but he refused, saying, “I’m not a preacher, I’m an artist, I present art, the audience and the jury have to evaluate this art”.

The organizations and the groups signing this statement, consider the times of confiscation and banning had ended. No one has the right to inspect the artists’ intentions. The space should be provided for everyone to express their opinions freely and by all possible means, without putting limits on creativity under any designation. They demand the administration of El Sawy Cultural Wheel to explain their stance of freedom of thought and freedom of creativity for everyone, with allowing the monodrama, “Autobus”, making an appropriate apology for the ones responsible.

فيه حاجة مهمة الناس بتتجاهلها أو مش دريانة بيها. إن الفلسطينيين اللى نزحو من أراضيهم, كان بسبب الحرب اللى بدأتها الكام دولة اللى كانو بدأو الإتحاد فى الجامعة العربية, ضد دولة إسرائيل الناشئة. و كمان النازحين الفلسطينيين كانو أقل من المهجرين اليهود من الدول العربية اللى إتطردو من مناطق لا كان فيها حرب ولا عدم إستقرار. النازحين الفلسطينيين كانو 600 ألف, و المطرودين اليهود كانو 850 ألف.
منظمة الأونروا لأول مرة و فقط للفلسطينيين, غيرت من مفهوم اللجوء, و بقت بتورّثو لولاد اللى كانو لاجئين من 1948, و اللى الدول العربية العنصرية رفضت تديهم جنسياتها, عشان يفضل فيه مشكلة و تتربا أجيال على الكره و السخط و الحقد على إسرائيل. المهم, اللاجئين الأوائل كانو كام 600 ألف, و دلوقتى تكاثرو و بقو كام مليون. دلوقتى تلاقى أعداء السامية بيقولولك إسرائيل طردت و هجرت ملايين الفلسطينيين. طبعا إنتو فهتمو المشكلة بدأت منين 😀

أول مرة أصوت فى حياتى – قولت لأ

أول مرة فى حياتى أصوت.
أنا كنت بشترى كارت موبايل من كوشك قريب من البيت قبل ما أروح أصوت, و صاحب الكوشك كان بيقوللى روح صوت (مع إنى كنت نازل أصلا أصوت), و ورّانى صباعه, فـ كنت متفائل (أحلى إصتباحة). بعدين كنت نسيت أجيب معايا قلم, فـ روحت كوشك تانى فى سكتى, و بردو كان مصوت.
كنت مبسوط جدا لإن المدرسة اللى كنت رايحها كان فيه إقبال عليها.
عارفين, و أنا مقرب من المدرسة كان فيه ناس رايحة جاية و باين عليهم بيصوتو أو رايحين يصوتو, و اللى مستنى فى العربية الناس اللى معاه تصوت.
دخلت اللجنة, و إستنيت فى الطبور (كان فيه أكتر من طبور فى المدرسة).
إديت البطاقة لواحدة من المسئولين جوا تملا البيانات, و أنا كتبت إسمى زى باقى الناس (إمضا). و أفتكر أنا كنت نمرة 179 فى السجل اللى إتكتب إسمى فيه.
الست إدتنى الورقة, إتأكدت من إنها مختومة و ماعليهاش أى علامة. و إتأكدت إنها عايزانا نقول (أنا أرفض) التعديلات, لاحسن نكون بنقول لأ لعدم تغيير الدستور 😀
روحت عالجنب بتاع الستارة, و إستخبيت وراها و كتبت صوتى, و طبّقت الورقة و حطيتها فى صندوق من صناديق الإقتراع.
ملاحظة, إن الستارة كانت محطوطة بشكل صعب جدا إن الناس تدخل تدارا وراها, و ماكانش فى مساحة الواحد يدخل وراها, و معظم اللى قدامى إكتفو بإنهم يروحو فى الجنب بتاعها و يصوتو من غير ما يستخبو وراها.
كان فيه واحد قبلى خارج من اللجنة بعد ما صوت و ماكانش عايز يحط صباعه فى الفوسفور بحجة إن عنده شغل النهارده (مش النهارده أجازة؟), بس واحدة من الستات اللى كانو مراقبين فى اللجنة أصرت على إنه لازم يحط صباعه فى الفوسفور

أنا لاحظت أن مختلف أشكال الناس راحت تصوت. أنا و كل إخواتى و مامتى صوتنا (بس مانزلناش كلنا مع بعض).
بس, مش فاكر حاجة تانية أكتر 😀

Akbar “Zeb” versus “Dick” Cheney

Dick
Richard Bruce “Dick” Cheney (born January 30, 1941) served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under George W. Bush. He briefly served as Acting President of the United States on two occasions during which Bush underwent medical procedures.
He began his political career as an intern for Congressman William A. Steiger, eventually working his way into the White House during the Nixon and Ford administrations, where he served the latter as White House Chief of Staff. In 1978, Cheney was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Wyoming; he was re-elected five times (regardless of his name), eventually becoming House Minority Whip. Cheney was selected to be the Secretary of Defense during the presidency of George H. W. Bush, holding the position for the majority of Bush’s term. During this time, Cheney oversaw the 1991 Operation Desert Storm, among other actions.

Zeb
Miangul Akbar Zeb is a Pakistani diplomat and is currently Pakistan’s high commissioner to Canada.
In February 2010, several blogs reported that Zeb had been denied an ambassadorship in Saudi Arabia because the name “Akbar Zeb” would translate in Arabic to “biggest dick”. In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Zeb described this as a “practical joke someone played on the Internet” and a “hoax story”. The High Commission reported that Zeb’s family name, historically spelled as “Zaib”, means “someone with good countenance”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akbar_Zeb

So, even if Zeb denied that he was refused, he was refused to work in Saudi Arabia because of his name. Can you believe it? How shallow! While Dick (in his native language & he worked in the US) worked as Vice President, regardless of what his name is.

يعنى ايه عروبة؟

حكام دول الجامعة العربية, بعد ما خلقو الجامعة العربية عشان يتآمرو على شعوبهم و يدعمو و يحمو بعض على حرماننا إننا نعيش بكرامة زى باقى العالم المتقدم, قالولنا إننا عرب و إن لينا خصوصية و اللى ينفع مع العالم المتقدم مايمشيش معانا. و بعد ما آمننا إننا عرب, إبتدت تثور شعوب دول الجامعة العربية, و بعد نجاح شوية مظاهرات فى إسقاط رئيسين, بقو بإستماتة بيحاولو يقنعونا إننا العرب اللى قنعونا إننا كلنا متوحدين بالدين واللغة و الثقافة, إن كل دولة ”عربية“ ليها خصوصيتها و مايصحش نعمم اللى حصل فى تونس و مصر إنه ينفع مع باقى دول الجامعة العربية.

ايه الفرق بين المؤامرة و نظرية المؤامرة؟

الفرق بين المؤامرة و نظرية المؤامرة, إن المؤامرة هى اللى بيبقى عملها طرف للتانى عشان يئذيه, و إن نظرية المؤامرة هى إفتراض مؤامرة و شرحها فى نظرية من غير دليل على حقيقتها. أمثلة: تآمر النظام المصرى على المتظاهرين المتحضرين المسالمين و إطلاق البلطجية عليهم, و دى مؤامرة, و عليها دلايل بتثبتها. إنما مثال نظرية المؤامرة هو إتهام 2 مليون متظاهر بإنهم بيقبضو فلوس من قطر و حماس عشان زعزعة إستقرار و أمن مصر, و دى نظرية مؤامرة لإن مافيش دليل يأكد صحتها.

Something Strange

One day in an afternoon, before sunset, near a school at a neighborhood. It was in the fall season and the weather was fine.
There was a person; person one, who is in the twenties, was copying some papers at a small bookshop with a copying machine. The bookshop was inside a room in a closed apartment.
While waiting for the papers to be copied, person one walked a little in the street. The street was narrow, with cars parked on a second row on both sides. The street was laid with asphalt, however it was quite muddy with fallen leaves on it.
Person one saw, another person; person two, who is also in the twenties, who was at another small bookshop. After person one having seen person two, person one felt very needy to be introduced to person two.
Person two wanted to buy a notebook, but the seller didn’t have any notebooks, so the seller suggested for person two to buy the notebook from the other bookshop where person one was copying the papers. Person one came back quickly to the first bookshop to buy a notebook, hoping that they would be introduced and talk to each other.
Person one found himself in a very crowded place with people who came to buy. The sun had set, while person one was waiting for the papers to be copied.
After coming back, person one almost forgot about paying for the copied papers and was about to pay only for the notebook. The seller told person one the price was seven pounds. Person one didn’t have money change. Person one paid with a hundred pound note. Person one noticed something strange. The one who was selling in the bookshop was the mother of person one!
